[Personal opinion / review]: This is arguably one of the greatest, if not the greatest, rendition of Prokofiev's ultra-modernist concertos due to the absolute commitment, precision and dynamic take on the music that occasionally borders on hysteria. Krainev and the orchestral forces bring to the fore the sheer drive and mystery of the score through a performance that is permeated by a tragic-heroic vision that manages, at the same time, to eschew any sentimentality. There is a brittle, "metallic" sheen throughout that captures admirably the rage, formalist cynicism and irony, and the pathos of these concertos that, to some, are the greatest specimen of the genre in the 20th century.
